History of Chungcheong-do

 Chungcheongnam-do is an area located in the west of the central part of the Korean Peninsula, bordering Gyeonggi-do to the north, Chungcheongbuk-do to the east, and Jeollabuk-do to the south, and facing the West Sea to the west. It also surrounds Daejeon Metropolitan City.


 As evidenced by the Paleolithic remains in Seokjang-ri, Janggi-myeon, Gongju-si discovered in 1964 and the Bronze Age remains found throughout the province, it is a land where people have settled since prehistoric times. In addition, during the Samhan period, most of Chungcheongnam-do was the northern border of Mahan, and Woljiguk, which was the center of Mahan at the time and held the political initiative, is estimated to be around Jiksan-eup, Cheonan City and it is estimated that 15 small countries out of 54 Mahan states were distributed in Chungcheongnam-do.


 During the Three Kingdoms period, Chungcheongnam-do was an area belonging to Baekje, and since the capital of Baekje was moved from Hanseong (Seoul) to Ungjin (Gongju) in 475 (the 2nd year of King Munju), it was splendid for 185 years until Baekje was destroyed by the allied forces of Silla and Tang in 660. It was an area where Baekje culture blossomed.

 During the Unified Silla Period, it was called Ungjin Dodokbu, Soburiju (Sabiju), Ungcheonbu, and Ungju.


 During the Goryeo Dynasty, it was called Hanam-do, Yanggwang-do, Chungcheongju-do, and Chungcheong-do, and was repeatedly merged with and separated from Gyeonggi-do.

 During the Joseon Dynasty, Yanggwang-do was separated from Chungcheong-do and Gyeonggi-do in the 4th year of King Taejo (1396), and Gamyeong was moved from Chungju to Gongju in the 31st year of King Seonjo (1598). , Chunghong-do, and Gongchung-do several times, and then returned to Chungcheong-do from Gongcheong-do in the 34th year of King Sunjo (1834). In the 33rd year of King Gojong's reign, as the 13-do system was reorganized by Royal Decree No. 36 in 1896, Chungcheongnam-do was finally created after being separated from Chungcheongbuk-do.
