Gyeryong City Family Center (Centre Director Woo Jeong-min) is selling dog clothes through Shop & Shop of the employment program 'Reorganized World'. In addition, the proceeds from sales here will be used to support underprivileged families, including multicultural families.
This project was started by selecting 6 female marriage immigrants and was carried out from March to June to help expand future jobs by acquiring the 'Pet Clothes Level 2' certification. Participants were Chinese by country of origin. There are 2 people, 2 from Vietnam, 1 from the Philippines, and 1 from Japan. Among the participants, no family had a dog, and no one regularly used a sewing machine.
Members who had no relationship with dogs until now gathered twice a week at the Gyeryong Grass Leaf Cultural Center for an activity called ‘Dog-Friendly World’ and learned from instructor Kim Mi-jeong the basics of making dog clothes, transferring and cutting patterns to fabric, and the basics of sewing machines. I started and learned one by one. It was so much fun that I always stayed and produced it until the time was right even after the two-hour lecture had ended.
The members were amazed and satisfied each time each small and cute dog outfit was completed. As time passed, each of us noticed dogs wearing clothes around us, and we started saying things like “I’m studying dog clothes,” looking up designs for dog clothes we wanted to make on the Internet, and exchanging information with each other. A sense of unity was also created.
Based on this, at the 'World People's Day' event held in May at the Gyeryong City Family Center, we made and provided aprons using the sewing machine skills we had learned, and also promoted dog clothes for a 'dog-friendly world'. One trainee who participated said, “I was very nervous at first because it was a promotional event I had never done in my home country, but I enjoyed being encouraged by the positive response from the citizens.”
Starting in July, when the 'Dog Clothes Level 2' course will end in June, we will conduct market research to sell dog clothes, compare prices of dog clothes, and provide a place where you can decorate and sell 'reorganized world' dog clothes. and began preparing a so-called 'small shop within a shop' so that it could be sold at a corner of the business office in Gyeryong City. While choosing stickers and packaging, we went to the Gyeryong Grass Leaf Cultural Center whenever we had time and made dog clothes to prepare for the opening of the shop.
We did our best to prepare by writing a promotional letter with the person in charge of the Gyeryong City Family Center and promoting it in the city's monthly magazine. ‘Reorganized World’ trainees are still researching designs and preparing clothes, thinking about fall and winter.
One trainee said, “I still don’t have enough skills, but I’m glad I was able to gain experience little by little by making clothes for sale, and I have a dream of making a variety of clothes in the future.” Another trainee said, “I hope I can sell even a little bit and support it.” “He said his wish.
Through this program, I learned a little bit about how I could start a business with my own hobbies and talents. I hope that all of our trainees will experience how to achieve things by working together, and that they will be able to run their own store in the near future.
